On the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, celebrated this year under the theme “Rural Women Farmers Caring for Mother Nature,” we pay tribute to the women who play an essential role in food production, biodiversity conservation, the sustainable management of natural resources, and the fight against the effects of climate change.

Despite their major contribution, rural women continue to face numerous challenges, including limited access to land, credit, agricultural inputs, markets, and education. These inequalities hinder their autonomy and their participation in decisions that affect their communities.

Yet empowering women is essential to combating poverty. Their empowerment helps improve family living conditions, increase household incomes, and strengthen the resilience of rural communities.

Through its projects in Burkina Faso and Senegal, the Fondation Chrétiens pour le Sahel places special emphasis on the role of women in rural development. By supporting sustainable agricultural initiatives, access to water, training, and income-generating activities, the Foundation helps strengthen the capacities of women, who are true agents of change and guardians of the future of their communities.
